Mike Couto, who is perhaps best known for his work as part of the duo “Couto and Mulligan” with the late Bill Mulligan and is very successful now as a solo performer, enjoys writing music. During last years holiday season, he brought back the feel of the Christmas times of yesteryear, with a special song with a New Bedford touch including references to the hustle and bustle of the old downtown shopping district. The song is called “Old New England Christmas” and is a real holiday treat!

Stang beats Dartmouth in best high school hockey rivalry
Dartmouth hockey coach Mike Capello says its the game the kids look forward too all year. Bishop Stang hockey coach Ken Gouveia calls the rival game between Stang and Dartmouth “a real gem”. This is definitely true. Every year, the Hetland Arena is jammed with fans who are cheering and yelling throughout the entire game. The excitement level is as good as any state championship game you will ever attend. This year, Stang has the upper hand with a deep roster of upperclassmen. But it never matters. The game was still tied very late in the third period before Stang pulled away.
Chops Turner Sings classic Nate King Cole Christmas song!
Chops Turner is a well known singer songwriter having worked at Maurice Starr Entertainment. He is originally from Providence, Rhode Island but has spent much time in Southeastern Massachusetts, including New Bedford, and currently lives in Fall River. During a Christmas special on my TV show New Bedford Connections, Chops made an appearance. He demonstrated his showmanship qualities during our interview and nailed the classic Christmas song also known as “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”!
Dartmouth high school hockey overtime win
Nothing is more exciting in local sports than a state tournament overtime win!! As we enter the winter sports season, we thought we would highlight one of the more memorable moments in recent high school hockey playoff action. Its do or die! Its win or go home! In 2016, Dartmouth came inches away from blowing the game against Rockland with seconds left. Goaltender Tyler Martin just got a piece of the puck to save the day for Dartmouth. Then Scott Shorrock turns the crowd into a frenzy in sudden death overtime. My son Dylan Santos and I had the pleasure of calling the game for Dartmouth Community Television (DCTV).
Brian Rose
Dartmouth native Brian Rose is best known as a professional baseball player has played for the Boston Red Sox as well as several other teams during a career that lasted more than a decade. Brian now works for the DAs office in an outreach program, and also as assistant hockey coach at Dartmouth high school and as head baseball coach at Bishop Stang High School. He’s also a contributor to Paul Santos live. He spoke with us about the Red Sox change in managers and about a clip that I showed him from his pitching days for the Red Sox.
Mike Couto
Mike Couto is probably best known for his work as a musician as part of the team Couto and Mulligan. For nearly a half a century Couto and Mulligan performed all around the area playing great music and entertaining audiences with their terrific sense of humor. Bill Mulligan passed away a couple of years ago but I had a chance to catch up with Mike who is performing around the area as a top-notch solo act. I also put together a clip of a performance they did on my TV show a few years ago.
